Wedding Veil.. Do or not to do?

What’s the single most recognizable bridal accessory? It’s not the shoes, it’s not the jewelry, it’s not even the dress…it’s the veil...

The veil first made its appearance in ancient times when brides would wear it to ward off evil spirits. Since then, it has been used to symbolize purity and innocence, to mask the identity of the bride to her future husband and more recently, it’s taken its place in the bridal world as a fashion accessory.

Shopping for a veil usually comes after the gown has been purchased. Although today our options for veils are many, the type of veil you choose will ultimately depend on your gown’s style. Here’s a little veil 101 to help get things started:

Birdcage Veil
More common for older brides, the birdcage veil extends to just over the chin. It tends to be made of Russian veiling (a wide-open weave of netting). This type of veil tends to go very well with cocktail dresses or dinner suits often worn at civil ceremonies.

Blusher Veil
This is the short veil worn over the bride’s face. It usually falls just below the collarbone and above the bust. The blusher veil tends to measure between 24 to 26 inches from the top of the headpiece to the hem of the veil. When measuring for the veil the hairstyle of the bride should be taken into consideration. The blusher veil was designed to demonstrate a bride’s innocence and modesty, so it continues to be a popular choice for most first-time brides. However, even second and third-time brides choose to wear a blusher veil. Because it hides the face, it adds to the drama of the ceremony. Traditionally it was held that the groom would lift the blusher veil to kiss the bride at the end of the ceremony. However, today many fathers choose to lift the blusher veil to kiss their daughters prior to “giving them away” to be married at the altar.

Elbow-Length Veil
Just as it sounds, this veil extends down to the elbow. It can be single or multi-layered. With the multi-layers they are cut to the same length or 1 to 2 inches apart with two to three layers.

Chapel Length Veil

The chapel length veil is best worn with a gown that has a chapel length train. This veil extends 6 to 12 inches beyond the train of the gown. Since this veil make it difficult to move around easily, it is best removed before the reception

Mantilla -

Spanish style veil that is very flowy, it can be short or long. This has elaborate lace designs and is usually very elaborate looking. This style works very well with A-line dresses, sheaths, and ball gown style dresses. If you choose this type of veil, you will want to select a very simple style dress so your dress design and veil design do not clash.

When i first started to plan one thing i knew for sure was that i didn't want a veil i couldn't imagine one of those things over my face.... then i fell in love with the idea of the bird cage veil with a flower in my hair..But after trying on my dress and seeing how important having a veil on was to my mother, i asked the sales person to try on a couple of different styles and the winner is a Two tier mantilla style veil .....(IVORY) I absolutely love it... (Thanks Mom) The lace along the sides match the lace in my dress. (Maybe soon i will post a pic of mines, have to be careful, Mr. G visits the site some times....(lol)

Wedding Color

Okay, like i said in my proposal Purple is my favorite color so of course this had to be my wedding.. G-Man and i decided that our colors would be shades of purple ranging from (eggplant, berry, lilac and lavendar) and our accent color are ivory and silver.

Here are some of my color inspirations :

Mother's tribute

Tribute to Mother/Mother in Law
...do this during ceremony

I found this article and think this is nice to do for the ceremony:To Honor Mother and Mother-in-LawEvery bride is looking for unqiue ideas and special ways to make her wedding more meaningful. Here is a wonderful and very touching idea to honor the two mothers at the wedding ceremony. But be certain to have lots of hankies on hand because this is guaranteed to tear up the eyes of everyone present... Ask your floral designer to design two detachable floral sprays into your bouquet. After your father walks you down the aisle, just before he turns to leave you and take his seat, remove one of the special flowers from your bouquet. Hand it to him and give him a kiss. Let him know in advance that this will take place and tell him that as he takes his seat in the pew with your mother, he is to present the flower to her on your behalf. Then at the conclusion of the ceremony, as you begin to make your way back up the aisle as husband and wife, stop at the pew where your mother-in-law is seated. Remove the second special flower from your bouquet and present it to her, along with a kiss, before continuing up the aisle.Don't tell the moms in advance that this will be taking place! It is the element of surprise which helps to make this so very sweet and special. There will not be a dry eye in the room...

The Nerve Of some people

Okay, let me start by asking where do they find these people, Okay so I'm at work yesterday and my co-worker comes up to me and ask "Hey, when is your wedding again?, I answer March 27... not thinking much of it, then she says ohhh wow, that's funny because i putting in vacation for the 29th and I'll be out a week,"i booked a cruise last night that leaves on wed. the 30th... (omg), now i know you are thinking and.....

Let me explain on my job vacations are given by who's been employed longer and i was hired six months after her, so she's knows that if she puts in for her vacation that it will bump mines!!!

She had the nerve to ask was i returning on that Monday after my Saturday wedding(excuse my language but helll no!!! ) I 'm going on my honeymoon to relieve some wedding planning stress from people like you (haters). I cant believe some people... First off i plan to take three weeks one the week before the wedding, the week after for my honeymoon and then one more to clear up things and enjoy a few days before i return back to work...

Well I'm not to worried because i spoke to my boss and she said there's no way she would deny my vacation.... But can you believe the nerve of some people...

Yahhh, First Post

I have decide to start this blog as a way to vent through my next few months journey to the day i marry my Best Friend, my planning my excitement and my fears!!!

Introduction:
My Name is La'Tasha and i'm from New York City, I'm a recent college graduate (Psy. Major). I'm a fun loving, nurturing and truly out going person. I love fashion (shoes, shoes and more shoes). In my family and in my friend circle i am always the one that plans everyone events and now it's time to plan mine time.(go figure)

Our story:
Me and my FH (G-man ) have known each other for 14 years, during that time in high school, no one would have ever thought we would be a couple, or even thought we would be getting married but as God would have it he had greater things in store for us…

The Proposal:
On Feb 5, 2008 @7:45 pm, Mr. G planned a surprise proposal for me, during that week I had gotten the flu and felt like crap (probably looked like it to). But Mr. G insisted that we going out to eat and he said he wanted us to dress alike in matching colors (this wasn’t unusual for us) so after some serious convincing I decide fine, I would go. When Mr. G arrived at home that Thursday evening, I wasn’t ready(like always), but I later found out was a good thing because I so preoccupied with getting ready, I never realized how funny and nervous Mr. G was acting.. After about 45mins later, we were out the door and off to one of my favorite Italian restaurants. When we arrived we were seated in a booth in the back in a dim lite area.(I was thinking to my self, “Why we have to sit all the way back here?, but since I truly wasn’t feeling great, I didn’t brother to say anything”. )As we sat down we order our beverages and talked a little, but little did I know Fh had arrange for us to sit here so I couldn’t see the room located in the back of the restaurant, where he had our family and friends waiting for us. After I drinks arrived, I stood up in the mirror behind me to fix my hair (I think) when I turned back around Mr. G was on one Knee and there was a photographer walking up to us taking pics. I was totally shocked and caught off guard.. After I said yes….. He asked me to follow him; he said he had one more thing to show him… When he pushed the doors open to the private room 40 of our closet friends and family was there , dressed in purple (my favorite color) he even flew my best friends in from Atlanta and Albany… Too my surprise this was planned for about five months… (He’s the best, I’m so blessed….)

We will be married on March 27, 2010
